Windom Area Health came to Pope Design Group with an immediate need for a new surgery department and outreach clinic. Facing the challenges of an outdated facility, and knowing that there were other needs that were to be addressed in the future, Pope suggested some rapid master planning to ensure that the current work would not make it difficult to address future needs difficult.

The 23,000 sq. ft. addition welcomes patients with a new lobby and registration area. The expansion features a 12 room outreach clinic with procedure space. It offers a place for visiting physicians and clinicians to bring valuable services to the Windom community.

Pope’s team also created a master plan for future phased improvements to the hospital facility. With more space, Windom Area Health can expand into two new operating rooms with prep, recovery and support areas. Remodeling portions of the existing hospital will make usable space between existing hospital and the new addition.

Following the initial project, the design team continued to work with Windom to implement another phase of the master plan, renovating the Emergency Department. The 4,200 sq. ft. renovation  features a new triage with four new treatment rooms, as well as a nurse station, cardiac rehabilitation room, trauma room, and behavioral health room. A new 5,000 sq. ft. air handler which replaces the original 1970s system was also included in the project.
